Prayers for Mothers' Day
On this Mothers’ Day we picture the
greetings cards that speak of love and tenderness and while we give you thanks
for such love and tenderness, we recognise that for some, their experiences
have not been loving or tender and that the reality is far from the ideal
pushed at us by the hearts, the flowers and the chocolates of the advertisers.
We recognise that many have mixed emotions about today. So, we pray for those
mothers we have let down and we pray for those mothers who have let us down. We
pray for those mothers who have forgiven us and we pray for those mothers who need
our forgiveness. We give you thanks for the mothers who loved us and ask you to
heal the wounds caused by the mothers who have not loved us.
God our Creator, we pray:
for new mothers, coming to terms with new responsibility;
for expectant mothers, wondering and waiting;
for those who are tired, stressed or depressed;
for those who struggle to balance the tasks of work and family;
for those who are unable to feed their children due to poverty;
for those whose children have additional physical, mental or emotional needs;
for those who have children they do not want;
for those who raise children on their own;
for those who have lost a child;
for those who care for the children of others;
for those whose children have left home;
for those who are self-isolating today and who are missing loved ones
and for those whose desire to be a mother has not been fulfilled.
